Candlewick or Boopie Glass?

Several years ago, I purchased 6 pretty tea glasses from a yard sale for $2.  I REALLY liked them so much that I started trying to find out a little bit about them.  I discovered they were Boopie or Candlewick glasses.  I purchased 2 more off ebay to round off my little set to 8.
My husband stopped in at a moving sale on his way to work last week and saw a box of these glasses.  He knew I really liked them and purchased the box and brought them home to me as a surprise.  And boy was I surprised and so very happy with my new glasses!
The nice lady is even going to call my husband when she finds the sherbet glasses that she misplaced.  Then on Saturday, I went to the Goodwill and found a matching cordial glass for 59 cents!
I posted my good fortune on my facebook page.  Well, one of my lovely followers asked for a picture because she didn't know what candlewick glasses looked like.

So, before posted the picture I wanted to find out more about the glass.  And what did I learn?  Candlewick is different from Boopie!  I'm sure most of you already know this but I just assumed that the names was being used for the same pattern.  It seems that the balls on the Candlewick pattern do not touch where as the Boopie balls do.  The Imperial Glass Company produced Candlewick from the 1920's until the mid 1950's.  Anchor Hocking started producing Boopie, which was originally known as Berwick, in the 1950's.  I obtained this information from Bargain Hunting and Treasure Seeking.  Click here to see more.

To make a long story short, my iced tea glasses are Candlewick but all the others that my husband purchased were Boopie.  Do I care?  Not one little bit but it's nice to know exactly what I have.  My husband gave me 10 water glasses, 3 cordial and 6 liqueur glasses.  The liqueur glasses is the perfect size to use as those little sampler dishes that everyone is selling.  Now I just need to find me some little spoons!

Patriotism in the Countryside

I've had some plans for the side porch off the mud room but haven't had time to complete them.  When I saw an arrangement similar at Holly Mathis Interiors, I knew I wanted to do this for the 4th of July.

I love the rustic look of it!  We used 3 old lawn tools, grapevine and some more of that Dollar Tree garland that I used in the patriotic mesh wreath.  I inserted 4 American Flags that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

I used Hunter's chippy blue metal chair to set ther fern in.  I inserted more flags and pinwheels.  I had planned on painting a flag on it and still might do so if I have enough time.  It just needed more sanding that what I thought.

Well, I still have more patriotic touches to make before our annual 4th of July barbeque!  I'll be sharing them with you as I get them completed.  To see some of my inspiration, check out my Pinterest board.

Stuffed Shrimp - For the Recipe Box

Recently, my husband tried a new recipe that I wanted to share with you.  The recipe is from the Froggy Bottom Cookbook, Louisiana Cuisine - from the hills to the bayous by Faye Crump Brydels and Donna Bolton Jenkins.

STUFFED SHRIMP

1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp chopped onion
1 tbsp chopped celery
1 tbsp chopped green bell pepper
1 tbl flour
1 cup milk
4 tbsp bread crumbs
1/2 cup cooked crab meat
3/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp parsley
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 1/2 dozen large shrimp

1.  Melt butter in skillet, saute onion, celery and green pepper using medium heat.
2.  Stir in flour and milk, stirring constantly until thick.
3.  Add bread crumbs, crabmeat, Worcestershire sauce, chopped parsley, salt and pepper.
4.  Mix well.
5.  Remove shell and vein from shrimp leaving tails on.
6.  Slit back of shrimp, put two shrimp together with crab stuffing.
7.  Hold together with toothpicks.
8.  Chill in refrigerator until ready to cook.
9.  Place shrimp in broiler pan, 5 inches from broiler unit.
10.  Baste occasionally with butter.
11.  Broil about 5 minutes on each side.

The only thing I would change is to add more seasoning.  It was a little too bland for our taste.
Happy Eating!

Tee Time!

One of my husband's numerous hobbies is golf so for Father's Day I decided to do a golf themed tablescape.  Well, golf themed with a touch of whimsy.  I purchased this frog several years ago as a gag gift for Christmas.  Well, the last laugh was on me!  He loved it and insists that it stay in the living room beside the hearth.  The only time that I have been able to move it is during the Christmas holidays because of all the Christmas decor.

Since he loves this frog so much, I decided to use it as my centerpiece!

I found a new box of Callaway golf balls in his golf bag and glued a tee and made a little flag to use as the place card.  You should have hear him fussing, telling me that I was ruining his golf balls!  I told him that the hot glue wouldn't hurt them!  Big Baby!

Anyway....I draped the table with a navy blue tablecloth.  The place setting consists of a square red plate (JCP), green salad plate (JCP) and cream bowl (BHG).

Wood handled flatware is paired with Laguiole steak knives.  The green striped glass (TF) is paired with Mikasa (The Ritz) wine glasses.

I hope everyone has a Happy Father's Day!

Patriotic Mesh Wreath

I really enjoy working with mesh ribbon.  I love the slight shine to it and the unruly look of the completed project. Thankfully, Hobby Lobby now sells it.  Before, I had to purchase it at smaller shops where it costs twice the regular price of Hobby Lobby, if not more.  For this wreath, I used my wreath from Christmas.  I removed everything but the red and white stripe mesh.

For this step, I had used a spare green Christmas wreath and loosely bunched up the mesh, securing it by twisting the green branches of the wreath around the mesh.

I left a little opening where I wanted to insert this navy blue mesh.

I just made a 4 loop bunch and inserted it into the opening.

I loosely wrapped this garland that I purchased at the Dollar Tree around the mesh.  I found a roll of flag ribbon in my supplies and added it as well.

Here it is on the front door.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thrifty Finds

I know that I mention my son, Hunter, alot but he is always getting thrifty things!  This past week he purchased a load of household items from a gentleman that is moving out of state.  He gave me this beautiful Wexford vase and little pitcher that was in his stash.

The vase is about 16 inches tall and is just beautiful!  The little pitcher is HEAVY!  That little thing weighs 4 1/2 pounds!  Yes, I weighed it!  I guess it is for cream, I'm not sure.  If anyone recognizes my little pitcher and knows anything about it, please let me know.

Don't you just love that picture?  I know I do!  I love the simplicity of it and the bamboo frame.  I purchased it at the Goodwill store for $5!

The two chairs were Hunter's also.  I purchased these from him.  The kid's got to make his money back somehow!  I like how they lighten up the area a little.  The ones that were there before were dark brown and black.  You can see them here.  The yellow topper is also a yard sale purchase many years ago.

.
Hunter is quite a unique person.  Savannah and I were talking about him yesterday and both of us agreed that he is quite an usual teenager!  To read more about him, click here
