Pillows, Pillows, Pillows!

Pillows are one of the most affordable and easiest ways to update a room!  They can lighten up a dark room or, in my case, furniture!  My sofa and loveseat are dark brown leather so pillows are a great way to lighten it up!  Pillows also bring texture into a room, especially if made with certain materials like burlap!

I love pillows!  On the bed . . .

or on the sofa.

I also like to change them often.  Not only to change the look of the room but also with the seasons or holidays! Such as this one for Valentine’s Day from Pottery Barn.

At some point, I started being overwhelmed with pillows!  They are not exactly easy to store!  They take up a lot of space!  Space that I could be using for something else! So what’s a girl to do?….besides stop buying pillows!  Use pillow covers, of course!

They are so much easier to store than an entire pillow!  Places like Pottery Barn offer beautiful pillow covers but if they’re a little out of your price range, like me, you can make your own!  Like this beautiful flag pillow from Beyond the Screen Door.  Click here to see her full tutorial.

I just love the nautical theme for the summer months!  Domestic Ingenuity shows us how she made them on her site.  To go there, click here.

Just think of how many pillow covers I can store in a basket or storage bin!  This is one of my new rules for this year!  No pillows, just covers!  Thank goodness, I have a mom that can sew!!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. That's brilliant! I just gave away two bags full of pillows - they take up so much storage space, but covers - now those I can store. I love the Valentine's one and the flag. Pinning both!

  7. Tammy this post was perfectly timed for me! I plan on making some pillows this weekend and since I have been on a super duper cleaning spree it had crossed my mind that I was again adding something else to store...your post took care of that worry! Thanks for sharing.

  8. I have to say I am pillow challenged. But I love how they cozy up a room, lighten a sofa, and a great way to make a seasonal change. Thanks for the great inspiration.

  9. I love all of the pillows you posted! I too LOVE pillows..well the covers - because I hate having to store pillows! I love to change them out for the holidays/seasons as well. I've been actually looking at fabric for a fresh new look for my sectional pillows!
I made a red chevron pillow cover for my front hall bench and embroidered "Love" (with the "o" as a heart" and I just adore it! It's such a cherry pillow! Here it is: http://gatheredinthekitchen.com/2013/02/11/valentines-day-pillow/
