A Little Sunshine on a Cloudy Day!

milk glass snack sets

Hi there!  I’m so glad you stopped by!  Today I’m sharing some vintage milk glass snack sets that I found at Goodwill several months back.   I believe they are from the 1950’s.

The pattern is the Atomic Flower.  I love the colors and the modern edginess they have!

They had a total of 12 sets and looked brand new!  I controlled myself and only purchased four sets!

The bright colors in the centerpiece make me smile!  It has been so dreary here with rain that it can get depressing!

So this is my little sunshine on a cloudy day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Tray to Shelf Transformation

tray to shelf

Awhile back, I purchased this tray at GW for $4.99.  I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do with it…it was well built, solid wood.  Maybe a sign?  or how about a shelf?

I mixed up a little diy chalkpaint, which you can see here.  I applied three coats and let it dry thoroughly.  I, then, printed this image of a tea advertisement from The Graphics Fairy.  I thought about trying to transferring it but since I’ve had trouble with it in the past, I decided to mod podge it!

After about 4 coats of mod podge, I let it dry over night.  I applied a coat of clear wax, then a coat of dark wax.

I hung it in the china closet about the civil war utensils.  You can see those post here and here.  Here’s how it looks from the door.

This project was quick and easy…the kind I like!  If I collect more little glass containers I even have room to add an additional shelf!

Thrifty Score–Vintage Linens

vintage linens

Recently, on two different trips, I found 2 sets of vintage table linens.  Both are made of 100% linen.  The first was still wrapped in the original box.  Pioneer still manufactures linens today.  According to their website, they sell luxury linens for home and yacht.  Oh yeah, these are for my yacht!  I wish!  LOL!  At $2.99 it was a steal!

Such a pretty set!

The other set was still pieced together with the original tag and tissue back.   Based on the color avocado, I’m going to guess these are maybe from the 1970’s.  This set was $4.80.

I kind of hated to take them apart but they had to be washed and ironed.  Be on the luck out for them.  They’ll be coming to a tablescape soon!
Have you found any get finds lately?  Thanks for stopping by!

Built Ford Tough–Tablescape

truck as centerpiece on Ford table

Last month was Hunter’s birthday and I shared his birthday table that was reminisce of his baby and toddler days.  To see the My Lil Buckaroo table, click here.  I also had another table. He didn’t want a party but I did invite family over for dinner and cake.  It was very hard to get him a cake that I thought he would like because he doesn’t like hunting, fishing, golf, etc.  At least, not to the point that he would want a cake decorated with it!  I was telling the baker some things that Hunter likes and she told me that she had prepared a cake before with a Honda motor on it.  I immediately thought of Ford.  He has always been an auto lover, especially Fords!  She agreed to do a cake with the Ford emblem and this is how it turned out!

Ford birthday Cake

It turned out great and he was surprised and pleased with it!  You should have heard my dad!  He’s a big Chevrolet fan!!  He had a good laugh out of it!  After I ordered the cake, I went to Goodwill because I remembered seeing this blue tablecloth that had reminded of the Ford blue.

Ford Tablescape

I set the table in the breakfast to reflect this theme.  I pulled some items from his room to use on the table….a book, a truck, gloves.

To add a little extra eye candy, I went to my husband’s junk drawer and pulled out some washers, screws, bolts….anything I could use as a little filler for the votives!

White ironstone chargers (Homer Laughlin), black dinner plates ($ Tree), and light blue salad plate (Old Time Pottery) complete the place setting.

DIY Numbered Mugs

diy numbered mugs

After Christmas, while hitting the sales, I came across the last mug tree at Pottery Barn.  At first I didn’t even look at the ticket because I knew it was out of my price range, but while checking out, I glanced over at it and saw it was on sale.  It was marked down to $59.99 from $149.99!  I didn’t get it right away because it was a little bigger that what I wanted but I also knew that the cheapest one that I had found online was $80 for a small one!  After shopping the mall for awhile, I went back to PB and grabbed it up!

I was afraid that it would be too big but it works pretty good on the island!

My nephew gave me a dozen ironstone mugs to use for this project.  I purchased a porcelain pen from Hobby Lobby and painted the numbers on by hand.  I was too impatient to try to find some stencils or to make them.  I was inspired by these numbered mugs from Anthropologie.

After I painted them, I let them dry for 4 hours, then baked in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.   My nephew did the same things for some other mugs but he just used a regular sharpie and I really didn’t see any difference!

There is even enough space to store some ironstone plates on top!

Sunday Bible Study – Proverbs 2:1-8

Dear Lord,

Thank you for all the people that are visiting this post. Please help us as we read Your Word. Take us deeper into understanding more about You and Your love for us. Help us to apply Your teachings to our life.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen

Welcome everyone to this week’s Bible Study. We will be picking up where we left off last week on Proverbs 2:1. If you don't have a Bible or don't have one handy and would like to follow along or perhaps read a different version, the Bible Study Tool in the sidebar will provide you with different versions and other study tools.

1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

The “heart” commonly refers to the mind as the center of thinking and reason, but also includes the emotions, the will and thus, thee whole inner being. The heart is the depository of all wisdom and the source of whatever effects speech, sight and conduct.

3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures

5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

These first 5 scriptures are like a prayer. In fact, it is what we should all pray. For a person to really be able to live a Godly life, you must first know what God expects. This first sentence says "receive my words". The heart is the place for the commandments and the Word of God to be hidden. If we receive into our being the wisdom of God and apply it to our heart we will do the things that are right in God's sight.

If we would spend even half the time learning the Word of God as we spend searching for worldly wealth, we would find the treasures of God. Knowledge has to be accumulated by learning. Wisdom is a gift from God. As we uncover the secrets of the Bible, we will have reverent fear of God and be filled with His knowledge.

6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

We read in James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Not out of our mouth cometh knowledge, but out of His. The knowledge is in His Word.  The words of His mouth are contained in Scripture. It is there that God speaks. Wisdom comes only by revelation.

7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

The Lord is our buckler, or protector, if we walk uprightly in our salvation day by day.

8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints

The saints are those who are justified by the Lord and walk justly. For the justified who follow in His judgment or law, He preserves, or saves, their way. The saints, or Christians, are eager to follow in the teachings of the Lord. Jesus is the way.

So, what is necessary for us to live a Godly life?  We must know what God expects of us and the only way to know that is through reading our Bibles and prayer.

I serve an awesome GOD and I pray that this post blesses you and helps to deepen your relationship with God!

Do you have a personal relationship with God?

Have a blessed week!

Tammy

Thrifty Score - Fiesta Ware

You know in order to catch those good deals at resale shops you have to drop in often.  You can’t go once a month and find that super deal, unless you’re lucky!  We live about 20 miles from our new Goodwill store so I only go by when I happen to go to town.  One night, the hubby and I went out to eat and afterwards I insisted on running in to check things out quickly.  This night there were nothing that I just couldn’t live without!  Well, the next day, I drove to the big city for a little shopping.  On the way home, before I reached the town close to my home, I debated should I stop or not?  My dogs were barking after shopping in heels all day and I was ready to put my feet up. But then I thought to myself, you never know what you’ll find!  So, I zoomed up in the parking lot and quickly, or as fast as those dogs would let me, walked into the store for a walk thru.  As soon as I get to the dish section, I see them. A big stack of Fiesta Ware dinner plates…in all different colors!

a walk in the countryside: Fiesta Ware Dinner Plates

Oh yeah!  And at 59 cents each!  Was the pain of hobbling inside on barking dogs worth it?  Definitely!  I didn’t have any dinner plates, only some bowls and platters so these will make a nice addition!

Aren’t they so pretty?  As I was checking out, another customer asked me if there were anymore…I thought to myself “Are you crazy, lady?” like I would have left any!

Now if you want to see some Fiesta, you must visit Cindy at The Little Round Table.  She has a fantastic collection!

This is her Atomic 50’s table.  I just love the colors!

Are the colors just absolutely gorgeous?  Did I also mention that she has a collection of vintage tablecloths that blend perfectly with all her Fiesta?

It is such a treat to visit her blog!  She has databases for her Fiesta and tablecloths!  Also, she shares with us how she stores everything.  Make sure you stop by and visit her!  If you don’t, you’re missing out on a treat!  To see more of the tablescapes that I have shown, just click on the picture and it will take you to her post!

Have you found any goodies lately?  Thanks for stopping by!

Roses & Candlelight for Valentine’s Day

happy valentine's day tablescape

Happy Valentine’s Day!

valentine's day table

My husband gave me a dozen red roses for my birthday and instead of using them all in one vase, I separated them so I could use the two vases that Savvy me.  I pulled out all my clear candle holders and clustered them on each side.

I placed a small vase at each table setting.  I purchased about 20 of these little vases from GW a couple of weeks ago.  For an extra touch, I tied a ribbon around the neck.

You may remember these cherub plates from a previous tablescape.  To see it, click here.  The dinner plate is gold trimmed Noritake Richmond.  The dessert dish is Ruby Red by Anchor Hocking.  The little rose is actually soap from the Dollar Tree!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I used my set of silverware by Rogers in the First Love pattern.

DIY Mercury Glass–A Pottery Barn Knockoff

winter mantel

If I knew that it was so easy to make mercury glass, I would have done it a long time again!  After seeing this cloche with a mercury glass base at Pottery Barn store, I decided to try it!

There are many tutorials on making mercury glass but they are all basically the same.  I used a spray bottle of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water.  I also purchased a can of Krylon Looking Glass paint from Amazon.  I was unable to find it anywhere locally.  I checked Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware and Walmart and no one had it!

After cleaning my glass pieces and drying them thoroughly, I sprayed a fine mist of the water/vinegar picture and then light sprayed over it with the looking glass paint.  I sprayed another fine mist of the water mixture.  After a minute or two, I used a paper towel and lightly padded it on the glass.  It lifted some of the finished, giving it the desired effect.  So easy, so simple!  I did have a little trouble with the taller cylinder vase because I was trying to do the inside but kept having trouble so I just applied the finish to the outside.

Here’s a close-up of the base.  I love how it turned out!

I also made the moss ball with reindeer moss from the Dollar Tree and an old decorative ball that I had.

I found the little votive cups at GW and painted them too!  They made a nice edition to the mantel!

I have been a little sluggish in getting areas of the house decorated after all the Christmas decorations came down.  I’ve finally got it done and before we know it, it will be time to decorate for spring!
