Sunroom Mantel

mantel decorated with religious items and oil lamps

How to decorate a mantel for Winter?  I don’t know but the mantel in the sunroom is really not a Winter mantel.  Maybe you could call it a religious mantel?

The main piece here is the vintage embroidered Psalms art.

and my King James Study Bible.

Or it could just be called a collection mantel since there is a collection of oil lamps.

Or how about just a vintage mantel since all of the pieces with the exception of my Bible are old pieces?  I think I like that better!

Fall Decorations

Fall mantel with owls

Immediately after the Halloween party, which you can see here, Savvy picked up all the decorations and packed them up!  Since then, I have been slowly putting a few things out.  The new sunroom probably got the most.

Fall Mantel

This year the owls landed on the mantel!  The picture is from Goodwill and the cute little stuffed owl is from the Christmas collection at Hobby Lobby this year.

Fall centerpiece

I was seriously planning on putting this china hutch in the antique booth because I didn’t care for the trim on it but after painting it, It’s staying!  It went from a bright yellow to a gray and, boy, did it make a difference!

It’s the same color that I used in the kitchen except this is the sample which is flat, not satin.  To see the kitchen, click here.

Fall dishes and glassware

I displayed the Fall dishes including this set of little glasses (maybe for brandy?).  There is a set of 4 and each have a different bird on them.

The small Audubon turkey print was another find at Goodwill.  The brass tiered tray is the perfect touch for this time of the year.

Fall flowers in olive basket

The olive basket is a favorite piece that I recently got from the antique store.  I’ve had my eye on it for a few months now and just decided to go for it and I’m so glad I did!

Fall decorations in the living room

The living room got a few touches as well, along with the mantel.

received a little touch of Fall. The lemons in the drink dispenser were replaced with pumpkins.

Summer Coastal Mantel

Summer Mantel
Well, we’re hitting the 90’s this week so I think Summer is here for us in South Louisiana!  The painting that I got last year is out of storage and back over the mantel.  It’s so much brighter in here since I repainted the walls in this grayish white color.  I think the name of the paint is Mineral Spirit from Behr.

I used the mercury glass that I made awhile back.  To see that post, click here.  The glass cylinder is filled with sand, sea glass, rope and a starfish.  The sea glass is from Pottery Barn, I purchased it last year but they have it for this year as well!  The sand is from Home Depot.

I splurged this year and purchased the coral from Pottery Barn as well.  Last year while at the beach, I priced it at several different places and they all seem to run about the same price.

The tall lantern is a recent purchased from Hobby Lobby.  The driftwood filler is from Pottery Barn.  My husband almost had a fit when he heard I bought a bag of “sticks!”  I loved how they looked at the store but I’m still not satisfied with how I used mine so I know this lantern will be looking different soon!

Snippets of Spring

bottle tree for spring
Hello, everyone!  I hope you had a good weekend!  We stayed pretty busy around here.  Hunter and I went to the Audubon Pilgrimage Friday and toured some local plantation homes.  They don’t allow inside pictures but I will be sharing a fantastic garden tour with you later this week!  On Saturday, we all went to a boat show!  Sunday afternoon was spent painting the living room!  Since it will be awhile before I get finished in my living room, I thought I would share some Spring décor that I’ve got out.  First up is the mug tree!

I removed some of the mug and used jelly jar tied with jute string to display some carrots….

and daffodils!  I tucked some burlap ribbon in the jar to cover the stems and to add a little texture!

A little chick and some moss rocks set up top on some plates!

The mantel was also spruced up a bit!  On one end is a white vase of forsythia and dog wood branches.

I purchased the little faux chocolate bunnies from Hobby Lobby.

I love the chocolate color with the green and white!

My mercury glass votive cups that I made seem to fill the space nicely.  To see how I made them, click here.

The white bunny sits on top of some old books to add height in the center.

A trio of white and greenery finishes off the other end!  Are you ready for Spring?
Thanks for stopping by!

Mesh Christmas Mantel

a walk in the countryside: mesh mantel using chicken wire
I know everyone has probably already decorated their mantels for Christmas but I wanted to share my sister-in-laws mantel with  everyone.  I haven’t seen it in person but she sent me pictures.  She found her inspiration on Pinterest but was concerned on how to hold it up.
a walk in the countryside: mesh christmas mantel using chicken wire
Her solution? Use chicken wire!  How clever is that?!

She used lots of mesh, ornaments and sprays.  It looks like there is a little greenery in there as well!

Love the little acorns!

Didn’t she do a fabulous job?!?

Fall Mantel

SAM_5895

Here’s one area that I finished decorating for Fall….I think….maybe!  Oh, you know how it is!  This is already my third time doing it…so it may get changed again!

SAM_5887

On each end, urns hold an Autumn floral bush consisting of leaves, acorns and a few feathers!!  Tall wheat grass was inserted in the middle to add some height.

SAM_5889

For the holiday season, I replaced my beach painting for a mirror. A matching garland is draped down the center with a few shiny votive cups and sprays tucked in.

SAM_5890

In the center, is a white ceramic turkey that adds a pop of color.

Balancing out the other end is a matching urn.  I really love the feathers!

Summer Mantel with Coastal Charm

You know I couldn't leave it alone, right?  I mean, it just wasn't me!  Yeah, I'm talking about my summer mantel.  I didn't want fill it up too much but it was just too bare.

I didn't go too overboard, I only added 2 jars of some sand, shells, and sea glass.  I picked some up from Pottery Barn.  I just loved the pretty shades of blue.

The sand and blue glass picks up on the colors of the painting.

I am still so in love with this painting that I got from the auction.  It was well worth $32!

That bag of play sand I got from Home Depot has come in handy.

What do you think?  Maybe it needs a little more tweaking?
