New Orleans Style Charm

This room is so elegant and welcoming. The neutral colors just seem to wrap you in warmth. These rooms are from a home on Magazine Street in New Orleans and were designed by Nelson Wilson Interiors.

You can see the faux fireplace better in this picture. I want to put one in the master bedroom before winter gets here and this is a perfect example of what I would like to have.

The French doors lead to a bathroom that was originally a closet.

I love the tile work in here.

In another guestroom, the armoire is balanced on each side with botanical prints.

What’s a guest suite without it’s own study? I do love the artwork collection on the wall. I have attempted to do this several times in different areas of my home but it never looks right on my walls!

New Bedrooms Linens

I’ve been shopping at Dirt Cheap again! Awhile back I shared that they are the go to place for affordable linens and they didn’t fail to deliver this time either!

I found a Shabby Chic king sized comforter and 2 shams in solid white for $39! On my second trip, I got the king sized duvet and 2 shams for $10!

I even found a knit throw for $8!

The Pottery Barn pillow covers were on sale for $10 each and were purchased before I found the bed linens! I knew I could use them somewhere and they look perfect here! Please forgive the wrinkles! I actually flipped the comforter over because I wasn’t loving the ruffles too much!

White curtains were $4 a panel! The bamboo blinds are from Home Depot. Did you know that you could trim your own blinds if they are too wide? HD didn’t have the right size so my husband cut them an inch off each side using a table saw. If you are going to do this, leave them bound in the plastic wrap and cut though the wrap and blind. Does that make sense? If you roll them up and cut them without being in the wrap or being bound by some tape, they will splinter on the end.

How do you like my Victorian table that I purchased from an antique auction a few weeks ago? It’s the perfect height and I love the wheels! Now, I’m on the look out for a new lamp!

British Colonial / West Indies Bedrooms

Whatever you call it, British Colonial or West Indies, you have the admit it’s beautiful!

Light colored walls that reflect the sun along with plenty of texture such as blinds and rugs!

Dark colored wood furniture, usually mahogany, is used. The wood furniture original to England usually warped in the Caribbean's humid climate.

Light, airy linens that would flow in the ocean breezes.

Maybe a little animal print to remember past African safaris.

Add some well worn items, such as suitcases and trunks that would have been used during travel.

This is one of my favorite styles and am going to go with the style in the master bedroom. The walls have been painted and new linens have been purchased. Now, I’m on the lookout for some furniture!

Sleeping Porches

I remember when I was quite young, visiting a cabin in the woods with my mom. The cabin was nothing fancy but I was enthralled by the “bedroom!” It was on the porch!

This was in the 70’s and a young couple lived there so I thought it was just a hippy thing but it was SOooo cool!

As I grew up, I realized it wasn’t a hippy thing! People have been doing this for like….forever! The above picture is from a restored historic site that represents life in the 1930’s.

Down here in Louisiana, if you sleep outside without being screened in, you’ll probably be carried away by mosquitoes!

Mexico Dream Pad

If you didn’t have a screen in porch or if you lived before screen was invented, you would use mosquito netting! Almost all the historic homes in our area, have netting attached to the tester beds.

In the summer months, beds would be moved to the porch to take advantage of the cooler night temperatures. Heck, why not just moved the whole family out there, especially if you have a fantastic view like this!
