I really wish it would cool off! I know I should just be thankful that it’s not 95 degrees instead of only 90! I’m just going to continue decorating the inside of the house for Fall and pretend that it feels like Fall outside!
I used several different things to pull together this centerpiece. To the right is a small apple basket tilted on it’s side and to the left, a pot of faux mums.
For the center, I used this old wine barrel that I got a few weeks ago at Goodwill for $10! I have no ideal what I’m going to do it but just couldn’t pass up the rustic charm of it. Scattered fruit pulls it all together.
I used the iron birds that I used in the Modern Tarnish tablescape a few weeks ago.
I used two tablecloths, the bottom is taupe and matches the napkins, the top is a rusty red orange.
I really layered the dishes this week! I pulled all the colors from the centerpiece….green of the pears, red of the apples, yellows of the mums, white of the pumpkin. The rattan chargers add to more rustic touch!
The leaf glasses were a recent purchase from the Dollar Tree. By inserting the taupe napkin, it highlighted the design of the glass.
The little leaf votive cups were purchased from the Dollar Store years ago. The green serving pieces were purchased on clearance a few years ago from Hobby Lobby.
A few scattering of leaves fill in the empty spaces.
TIP OF THE DAY: Heavy Cream Substitute – Last night, I was making Paula Deen’s Chicken Pot Pie, which is delicious by the way! My children actually fight over it! Anyway, it called for 4 cups of heavy cream and I was out! So I went online and goggled it. This is what I found from Frugal Living…
Need heavy cream for a recipe? Use this cheap and easy stand-in, and you won't have to buy any:
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 2 minutes
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup butter
Preparation:
1. Melt the butter.
2. Pour it into the milk, and stir.
3. Use in place of one cup of heavy cream.
Note: This substitute while not whip.
Tip: If you use low-fat milk, add a tablespoon of flour to the mixture to thicken.
It worked like a charm!!! My daughter was overjoyed! This is her favorite dish!

ReplyDeleteWhen we were kids my mother would make us drink warm milk with butter melted in it to cure all sorts of ills. My sisters and I thought of it as extreme punishment! Now I think I would like some. That is a great tip! And that wine barrel!! Wow, you were in the right place at the right time. Obviously donated by someone who does not appreciate tablescapes!! You will have so much fun with it. I'm your newest follower! Linda
