I wanted to share the screened porch before it was gone! I also need some suggestions on what to do with the new space, once it’s ready for decorating. It was already in a kind of transition stage that I never completed. The past spring I rearranged the front porch. I took the wicker set that was previously on the screened porch and put on the front porch.
Everything on the porch is second hand. The hutch is from craigslist, the table from a thrift store and the chairs from a garage sale. The only thing I’ve done since moving out the wicker furniture is covering the chair seats with drop cloth fabric.
My husband got the wicker sofa in exchange for moving furniture for one of his customers and the cushions will be recovered! The chair is a project that has been ongoing for a good while. I wonder if I’ll ever finish it? The iron frame is actually from a fire pit that was in the trash and I was going to make into a coffee table. Now all these plans have changed. The end wall already has a fireplace going in and the long exterior wall now has back to back windows!
Back to the other end. The metal dresser to the right is my son’s. We plan on refinishing it and it will be moved to his bedroom. I do have plans to redo this hutch once the sunroom is complete but I can’t make my mind up what to do. I also wanted to show you a closer look at the screened doors.
My husband built the doors, there are a total of three. What I will miss is the hardware. Several years ago, Hunter had a bottle of old hardware that came out of the dairy barn and there was a set of 4 corner pieces. At first we didn’t know what they were for but found out they came off an old screen door.
Here’s a closer look. These are reproduction pieces. Since I had three doors, I found some online and gave the single set to my mom to use on her screen door. I love the special detail that it adds to the doors. The nice iron handle came from Hobby Lobby.
So, keeping in mind that this room is on it’s way to being a sunroom, I need some suggestions. If this were your sunroom, how would you decorate it? What colors would you use? I do plan on keeping the table and chairs, the hutch and the wicker sofa. Please share your suggestions and help this confused gal make up her mind!
Thanks for stopping by!

Tammy, I so love your screened porch! I would love to screen in my outdoor space. LOVE the hardware on your screen door! This is a space I would never leave!
ReplyDeleteYour screened in porch is wonderful but I know you are going to love a sunroom as well! I would keep things neutral so you can spice it up seasonally, but you really need to go with what you like. I'm sure it's going to be beautiful. BTW, I love the hardware on that door, too. And Hobby Lobby for handles? Who would have thought?!

I love your screen porch. Makes me sad you are going to change it, but I do understand how you can use them more if they are a room instead. I've had fleeting thoughts of doing that myself, but it would be a major expense as my porch doesn't even have a footer. I like having the bottom of mine closed off because it helps protect everything from the weather. As it is, the floor still gets wet from the west winds and rain, but the bottom part helps. Plus it keeps the cats and kids from kicking and pushing out the screen. Anxious to see your finished renovation.

ReplyDeleteI think it will look so pretty as a sunroom. I've got no ideas on how you would decorate it....however, after seeing this post...I know how I'd like to decorate my screened porch when I get one!

Thank you for all the lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - as far as how to decorate the new sunroom - well, I found that you need to "live" in a room for a while before you decorate it - then it will just come to you naturally. Give it a little while after you get it complete and see what happens! Good luck!

Your front porch has a very warm and comfortable impression. If I were to decorate a sunroom, I would prefer to use bold colors, but if that’s not for you, remember the basic approach in decorating: a.) balance the colors in the room; b.) ensure the unity of the elements present in the space; c.) and add contrasting accents to the interior. Don’t overdo it, and choose what’s comfortable for you.

I love your screened porch! Too bad it's gone now. =( You have a beautiful front porch, and there are lot of things you can do with it. You can add different designs of sun rooms or decks, or even outside kitchen.
