A Coastal Touch

seashells in urn for coastal touch

Since I started blogging last year, I have the hardest time deciding which style I like the best, which one I want in my home.  I get so confused!! There is some many beautiful styles that I do love but what do I want to be surrounded with? What style will keep me satisfied the longest?  I decided to STOP looking at all the gorgeous inspiration that the internet offers for awhile and think it though!  I asked myself, “What do you like, not decorating wise but what are my actual interest?”  Well, I love history, especially local and state history.  I love genealogy.  I love Louisiana, except for the hot, hot summer heat!  and I love the beach!

There was my answer!  I live in an area in Louisiana that is close to a lot of antebellum homes on the Mississippi River and it is steeped in history that I love so why not reflect that in my home?  I live few hours from the Mississippi Gulf Coast so I don’t have to go far to get my coastal fix but I can have a little bit of it in my home as well!  So I’m going to bring a little Louisiana coastal feel to my living room!

This little coastal touch was quick and didn’t cost me a thing since I had everything on hand.  I purchased this urn a few years ago at a yard sale.  I’ve tried planting things in it but it’s just too shallow so I’m going to spruce it up a bit!

Before it was gray with a whitewash finish.  I decided to give it a couple of coats of white spray paint.

You can still see a little gray peeking though but that’s ok!  After it dried, I used some Annie Sloan dark wax to tone it down some.

Even Savvy said it looks cool!  I filled it up with some seashells and now it looks great on the piano!

This is the kind of projects I like, quick and easy!  Drying time took the longest!  I’ve got big plans for this corner of the living room, I just hope it looks good when I finished!  Sometimes what’s in my head doesn’t always work out in person!!

Beach Side

Today's tablescape is a beach theme in keeping with the Let's Dish party that starts tonight at Cuisine Kathleen's.

I gathered all my goodies on the breakfast table, trying to decide what to use.

The flowers are blooming and since today is all about the beach, I wanted to set the table on the back patio.

I'm making sure that my pictures don't show the destruction going on behind me.  Remember I told you my husband tore out the pond because he wanted a bigger waterfall?  Well, he's not finished and there is a countdown to the 4th!  We host our bbq in this area and he has to be finished by then!

I started by draping the table with a white table and criss crossing the table with runners I made out of burlap.  I used my shell chargers that I made.  You can see that post here.  I love all the colors of the different sea shells!

From the grays to the reddish orange!  I used the robin's egg blue plate topped with clam shaped clear salad plates.

Bamboo handled flatware adds to the beach theme...

along with the shell and bamboo napkin rings.

Turquoise goblets bring in the color of the ocean.  The butter warmers are a great accompaniment when serving seafood.

In keeping with the sea shell theme, I used my big lantern from Lowes that I had filled with sand, shells and a candle!

I hope you enjoyed my tablescape!  Would you like a little peek at the waterfall?

There it is! A sneak peak though the elephant ears!
